Grammy Award-winning and multi-talented rock legend Boz Scaggs has put the finishing touches on his latest studio album, Memphis. The multi-platinum selling musician has signed with 429 Records, which will release the album on March 5. Showcasing both original songs and choice covers, Memphis was produced by Steve Jordan (John Mayer) and was recorded at Willie Mitchell’s legendary Royal Studio in Memphis, where the late Mitchell recorded Al Green and other Hi Records artists.
Raised in Texas with an abiding respect for a wide spectrum of American roots music, Scaggs has used his unique and creative voice to create a trademark sound which combines R&B and blues with jazz and popular music. After several weeks of college, he decided to instead devote himself to playing around campuses and various clubs and resorts. Scaggs’ guitar and voice provided his self-described “ticket to ride” as he left the States to travel in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Returning in 1967, he developed his skills as a songwriter and recording artist, joining fellow Texan Steve Miller in San Francisco on several albums before launching into a solo career. He signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records debuting with the renowned Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and Duane Allman. “Silk Degrees”, his multi-platinum album, brought five hit singles and Scaggs’ first Grammy Award. A succession of follow-ups led him on a multi-genre musical journey with successes in film tracks and even a #1 Billboard jazz album, “But Beautiful”.
With an extensive and distinctive career that has spanned 30 years and many accolades, Scaggs continues to prove himself as one of music’s most creative and original artists. Come see him live on stage at ACL Live on April 26th!
