Jack & Jim Gallery
Jack & Jim Gallery
The Jack & Jim Gallery at ACL Live represents a passion for music that unites three American institutions: the Jack Daniel’s Distillery, Jim Marshall Photography, and ACL Live. These iconic organizations have joined forces to produce the second installation of the Jack & Jim Gallery in celebration of the spirit and history of rock and roll.
This exhibition of Jim Marshall photographs includes never-before-printed and recently released images from the Marshall Archive. Widely acknowledged as the godfather of music photography, Marshall always seemed to be at the right place at the right time. His 50-year career photographing music luminaries resulted in over 500 album covers, multiple magazine features and countless iconic images spanning every musical genre.
The photography curated for the 2016 Jack & Jim Gallery chronicles the counterculture movement of the 1960s. A small neighborhood, The Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco, is widely regarded as the cradle of this Revolution. Jim Marshall’s unique eye documented the early psychedelic scene, the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin and the British invasion that came to see these bands-The Who, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. The Human-Be-In, Jimi Hendrix performing free concerts in Golden Gate Park, Hippies and the Hells Angels are celebrated here.
These photos will provide you with a behind the scenes glimpse into the life of countless celebrated musicians through the lens of a legendary photographer. And, if you’re inspired to toast with some Jack Daniel’s, Jim liked his neat.
