FIRST NIGHT! Willie Nelson & Family New Year with Ryan Bingham
Austin's hometown musician, WILLIE NELSON, returns to Austin City Limits Live to ring in the new year in style with three nights featuring special guest RYAN BINGHAM. New Year's Eve will also feature a performance by LUKAS NELSON AND PROMISE OF THE REAL and appearances by Father Time Texas and Baby New Year!
With a six-decade career and 200 plus albums, this iconic Texan is the creative genius behind the historic recordings of Crazy, Red Headed Stranger, and Stardust. Willie has earned every conceivable award as a musician and amassed reputable credentials as an author, actor and activist. He continues to thrive as a relevant and progressive musical and cultural force.
In the last five years alone, Willie delivered nine new album releases (one of which resulted in a Grammy Award win), released a Top 10 The New York Times’ bestsellers book, again headlined Farm Aid—an event he co-founded in 1985—received his 5th degree black belt in Gong Kwon Yu Sul, and graced the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
Willie's 2013 albums included April's Let's Face The Music And Dance, a record of deep pop country repertoire classics performed with transformative patented ease by Nelson and Family, his long-time touring and recording ensemble. October's To All The Girls… features 18 duets with music's top female singers including Dolly Parton, Mavis Staples, Sheryl Crow, Loretta Lynn, Wynonna Judd, Rosanne Cash, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, and Shelby Lynne. In 2014, Willie released Band of Brothers, a 14-track studio album of new recording that debuted at #5 on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart and #1 on Billboard’s Country album chart, as well as December Day: Willie’s Stash Vol. 1, an eclectic album collaboration of intimate new recordings from Willie and Sister Bobbie Nelson.
Just last year Willie added two more titles. On May 5, 2015, “It’s A Long Story: My Life,” the unvarnished and complete story of Willie, hit bookshelves and landed him on the The New York Times’ bestsellers list. In June, a new album with Merle Haggard titled Django And Jimmie, debuted at #1 on Billboard‘s Country album chart and #7 on Billboard‘s Top 200 album chart.
Grammy and Oscar- winning singer/songwriter RYAN BINGHAM was born in New Mexico but raised all across the Southwestern United States. He set out on his own, at a young age, shuffling from town to town and performing gigs at local no-frills bars. It’s this spirit of having done plenty of living early on, that has informed the singer- songwriters world-weary and jagged, weather-beaten vocals.
At only 34 years of age, Bingham has five studio albums under his belt ('Mescalito', 'Roadhouse Sun', 'Junky Star', 'Tomorrowland' & 'Fear And Saturday Night') the two most recent of which were released under his own label Axster Bingham Records.
