SECOND NIGHT! Widespread Panic
Since the group’s formation in Athens, Georgia, in 1986, Widespread Panic has risen to elite status among American jam bands. This year’s tour features John Bell (guitar/lead vocals), John Hermann (keyboards/vocals), Jimmy Herring (lead guitar), Todd Nance (drums/vocals), Domingo “Sunny” Ortiz (percussion), and Dave Schools (bass/vocals). With an enormous catalogue of music to choose from, they are known for never playing the same set twice and they hold the record for sold-out performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado at 42. With eleven studio albums, ten live albums and over three million records sold, Widespread Panic is a true staple of the American music scene.
Nothing gold can stay, and no band understands that lesson better than Widespread Panic after the passing of Michael Houser in 2002, but with Herring now in his eighth year in the fold and the band ready to roll, there’s a palpable sense of renewed purpose and commitment and a rejuvenated enthusiasm within the band. That vibe – the feeling that anything can and may happen – is back with Widespread Panic. And it feels good.
